How can the selfie be a tool of representative power?

How does the selfie relate to self-representation and self-denomination?

I take advantage of the selfie as a political tool to challenge individual identity and insert it into a critique of self-representation. The power of my selfies is ideological because I present an image that can conflict and confuse since I deconstruct the aesthetics of the hegemonic selfie. For me this becomes a personal narrative ritual to face a violent reality of representation on social networks that tries to erase and censor queer and dissident identities. A constant and obsessive action of self-archiving and then virtually re-contextualizing myself, thus controlling my own virtual representation. Through my surreal selfies I am looking at myself from a space of imagination where I dream of different possibilities of my being, representing the world from my own narrative.

Una acción constante y obsesiva de auto-archivarme y luego re-contextualizarme virtualmente, así controlando mi propia representación virtual.

Aprovecho el selfie como herramienta política para desafiar la identidad individual e insertarla en una crítica de auto-representación. El poder de mis selfies es ideológico porque presento una imagen que puede conflictuar y confundir ya que deconstruyo las estéticas del selfie hegemónico. Para mi esto se vuelve un ritual de narrativa personal para enfrentar una realidad violenta de representación en redes sociales que trata de borrar y censurar la identidades queer y disidentes. A través de mi selfies surreales estoy mirándome desde un espacio de imaginación donde sueño distintas posibilidades de mi ser, representando al mundo desde mi propia narrativa.
